Styling a Shearling Gilet Instead of a Winter Coat, Over 40 Style

This weekend I was very brave – I went without a coat and wore a chunky knit and a faux shearling gilet instead, despite the temperatures dropping back downwardly again in the UK.

It may seem foolhardy to some, but I just similar the word "foolhardy" and wanted an excuse to become it in the postal service 😉

Merely about everything you see here has been worn earlier. I have a huge collection of wintertime coats – when you're a color lover yous desire ane in every colour imaginable, and so that'due south a lot of coats. Each winter I endeavor and piece of work my way through them all, making sure each 1 gets some love and fresh air at some point. I know information technology's not strictly a coat, but the simulated fur shearling gilet hasn't seen the light of day Exterior for a while (sometimes I article of clothing it indoors as a quick, snuggly throw-on to keep my bod warm). I concluding wore it on the blog simply over two years ago (hence my want to characteristic information technology once more!) and that time I styled it with a foam roll neck sweater and a vintage hat.

And then, a slightly dissimilar version of today's outfit, and then…!

THE Play a joke on IS NOT JUST IN WHAT You Vesture ON TOP (ADMITTEDLY THE SHEARLING GILET IS A LIFESAVER), BUT THE FOUNDATIONS UNDERNEATH.

Every bit some of y'all may accept seen my outfit with a camel beret a few weeks ago – the first beret I've bought in over xx years – yous have noticed that I now have another beret in mustard xanthous. It matches the chunky mustard-coloured K&Southward sweater (last seen here) I bought in the fall along with the same in deep orange perfectly.

What's the verdict I hear you cry: Was she warm enough without a coat?!

Well the fox is non just in what you wearable on top (admittedly the shearling gilet IS a lifesaver), but the foundations underneath. Under the chunky knit I was wearing almost four thin layers, including a lite cashmere sweater (cashmere ALWAYS holds all the warmth in). Combined with three pairs of socks and big school regulation-style pants (did anyone else go to a schoolhouse with those big thick pants for sports??) yes, I was pretty toasty.

I matter to acknowledge to, however: I took my gloves off for the shoot. I'd just had gel nails done that morn and so I wanted to evidence them off… the gloves went straight back on later on, though! No messing with that cold, me.

Thanks for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started every bit a campaign on Instagram in Baronial 2022 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist'due south list of "inappropriate" items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses.
